July Out and About

I have been busy meeting with residents, businesses and community organisations across my electorate of Dunstan. Overwhelmingly, the main issues raised with me are the rising cost of living for families and the burden on small business.

Many are worried that South Australia has the world's most expensive electricity and that it is unreliable. Businesses are concerned about surviving through another summer with multiple blackouts.

With the election about seven months away, the State Liberal Team has been working hard to communicate our policies that will turn around our state after almost 16 years of a reckless Labor Government.

I am always eager to hear about the issues that concern you and, importantly, work with you towards a possible solution.

O-Bahn City Access Project

I am continuing the fight for better U-turn and right hand turn facilities along Hackney Road for the residents wanting to head north. I recently wrote to the Minsiter requesting that he reconsiders the current arrangements. It is appaling that local residents wanting to travel north on Hackney Road must first head south before making a U-turn to head back.

What has been happening locally?

As part of National Volunteer Week I was fortunate enough to attend the Norwood Meals on Wheels facility, meeting the many volunteers and thanking them for all the time they put in. Volunteers form the backbone of so many communities across South Australia and this week served as an excellent reminder to appreciate all the wonderful work they do.

In appreciation of the volunteers throughout our community I hosted a 'thank you' morning to thank them for the endless hours they put in.

I was fortunate to visit the Women's Community Centre in Stepney where I met with Kala McLean, the Director of the Centre, along with their members. Unfortunately, the Labor Government recently stopped funding the Centre which means they have to rely heavily on sponsorship and money raised through their op-shop. It was wonderful to see first-hand the brilliant work undertaken by the members of this centre. Their vision to create "a centre that encourage and enhances women's strengths and potential in their community" is highly commendable and I look forward to seeing their success continue.

I have recently had the pleasure of attending schools throughout Dunstan, meeting the principals and reading books to students. This is always a great opportunity to meet many students and teachers throughout my electorate. I was especially pleased with the chance to meet the Year 7 class at St Joseph's Memorial School in Norwood and discuss my trips to the APY Lands and the significance of NAIDOC Week.

-  Congratulations to Norwood Croquet Club, St Peters Collegians' Cricket Club and Burnside Calisthenics & Dance Academy on receiving funding from Round 42 of the Active Club Program. The grant will assist with program and/or equipment funding.

-  The Lions Club of Norwood recently held their Handover Dinner, where they welcomed incoming President, Jenny Rayner. Thank you to Rosemary Wenham for all the hard work you put in over the past year.

-  Congratulations to Norwood Football Club on recently receiving approval for their new development, replacing the Baulderstone Stand with a new grandstand and function room. This upgrade is going to reinvigorate the western end of The Parade and enable more members of our community to attend local sporting matches.
